Optional Retirement Program (ORP)
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) provides statewide coordination for the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) administered by Texas public institutions of higher education.
New ORP-Eligible Employees
You have 90 days from your first day of employment in an ORP-eligible position to make a one-time irrevocable election of ORP in lieu of TRS. The "Overview of TRS and ORP" [PDF] provides general information to help you choose the retirement plan that best suits your situation. Your Human Resources Office will provide specific information for your institution's plan, including a list of authorized ORP companies, local employer contribution rate, ORP policies and procedures, and your specific deadline to elect ORP.
ORP Administrators Contact List: Please send updates to TexORP@thecb.state.tx.us indicating: Name, Position Title, Institution, Email, Phone Number. We use this list to keep you aware of changes in ORP-related information and contact you individually when necessary.
Annual ORP Report Preparers/Approvers
Your Annual ORP Participation Report is due on October 1 of each year for the preceding fiscal year data.
