We aim to improve recruitment, preparation and retention of Texas teachers and other educators by working with all stakeholders (including other state agencies, two- and four-year colleges and universities, K-12 schools, school districts, Education Service Centers, parents, students and community leaders) in a collaborative, constructive network.
If an institution is requesting a new educator certification program for an approved degree, only submit the Certificate Program Certification Form. If the institution is requesting a new degree that includes a new educator certificate, complete the appropriate request for a new bachelor's or master's program. Information and request forms for new certificates and programs can be found at the New Degree Program and Certificate website.
If the institution is changing an approved program, and the change would not result in an increase or decrease in the semester credit hours required for the program, no form is required for the THECB. Changes to programs that would increase or decrease the number of hours required for the program must be reviewed by Board staff. Use the Semester Credit Hour Change Form.
THECB requirements for undergraduate educator certification programs are found in the chart at the link listed below. An optional worksheet is provided as well. Requirements for post-baccalaureate educator certificate programs are also provided with an optional worksheet.
All educator certificate programs must be approved by the State Board of Educator Certification, and questions about that approval process should be directed to the Division of Educator Standards at the Texas Education Agency.
