In January 2013, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board launched the Developmental Education Scaling and Sustaining Success (S3) Project. The purpose of the project is to inspire and enhance the efforts of institutions of higher education to significantly boost student success and college completion of underprepared students. Grants were awarded to institutions that produce comprehensive plans that not only increased the number of students impacted by a promising practice, but demonstrate how the practice would substantially increase student success and college completion of underprepared students. Awarded institutions will implement reform in one or two of the following focus areas, which the Coordinating Board believes are essential for significant improvement in student success and college completion of underprepared students:
