What is TETC?

The Texas Engineering and Technical Consortium is a consortium of industry and academic members. University members are from either computer science departments of public institutions (29 members) or accredited electrical engineering departments of public institutions (15 members) and independent institutions (4 members), representing 34 Texas universities. The legislative intent was to focus the program on computer science and electrical engineering initially, and TETC has done so for the first three grant cycles. The fourth and latest grant cycle was open to all of engineering, but, because of the short lead time, participation of other engineering disciplines was limited.

Currently there are seven industry members, contributing a minimum of $100,000 per year in funds or in-kind donations to the program (see Table below). National Semiconductor, Sabre, and Sematech contributed cash amounts below the membership level set by statute. Previous industry members were Applied Materials, Motorola, Freescale, SBC and AT&T.

• TETC Advisory Committee: The committee meets once or twice every year for discussions, presentations, and "best practices-sharing" sessions.
• TETC Executive Committee: This is an operating committee with up to 23 voting members - up to 12 industry and 11 education members, with industry members in the majority. Industry members select education members from the TETC Advisory Committee. The current and inaugural chair is Ms. Tegwin Pulley, Vice President, Texas Instruments, Inc.
• Host Institutions: Beginning with fall 2004, the host institution is the Southern Methodist University in Dallas. The current Executive Director is John Shellene of Sherpa Management, Dallas. For the 2003/04 biennium, TETC's host was The University of Texas at Austin. The Executive Director was Dr. John Halton, Assistant Dean for College Relations with the UT Engineering Foundation. The inaugural host institution for TETC was The University of Texas at Dallas.
