Texas Teacher Residency Program was established by House Bill 1752, passed by the 83rd Legislature, Regular Session in 2013.

Awards allow higher education institutions to form a partnership with area school districts or open-enrollment charter schools to provide employment to residents in the program. Teaching residents participating in the program may earn a master's degree and may achieve certification.
