The Westin Austin at the Domain
11301 Domain Drive, Austin, Texas 78758
February 17-February 19, 2016
Convening SummaryWelcome to the information site for TAB•Lab: Launching Affordable Baccalaureates. The convening will be held at the Westin Austin at the Domain (11301 Domain Drive) on February 17-19, 2016. An “implementation team” of three leaders from your institution are invited to attend. We suggest your team include your chancellor or president; your chief academic/instructional officer; and one other leader, such as an innovation director or instructional designer. Participating institutions currently authorized to offer baccalaureates, and institutions partnering with such institutions, will be invited to submit proposals for seed funding provided by philanthropic partners to assist in developing affordable baccalaureate degrees.
We will begin the convening at noon on February 17 with a welcome luncheon. During the luncheon, Sally Johnstone of Western Governor's University (WGU) will present an overview of options for supporting affordable baccalaureates. The overview will be followed by breakout sessions, including a special session for chancellors and presidents to discuss and share ideas. While we believe institutions will get the greatest return if they have a complete team attending the full convening, chancellors and presidents will be particularly interested in the sessions on February 17 from noon to 5:00 p.m. On the following two days, TAB•Lab will resume at 8:00 a.m., with concurrent sessions focused on developing and implementing high-quality, affordable four-year degree programs. TAB•Lab will conclude at 1:00 p.m. on February 19. We will update the attached preliminary agenda on the registration website when it is finalized.
LEARN, COLLABORATE, AND INNOVATE
The TAB•Lab convening is an opportunity for leaders of Texas public and independent institutions of higher education to learn directly from institutions that already have built, or are in the process of building, the foundation to launch affordable baccalaureates. Sessions will be led by experts from a wide range of national organizations and institutions, including the American Council on Education, the Council for Adult and Experiential Education, HCM Strategists, WGU, the University System of Georgia, the Competency-Based Education Network, Brandman University, College for America, and the New America Foundation. With support from the College for All Texans Foundation, the Coordinating Board, Western Governors University Texas, and the new Institute for Competency-Based Education at Texas A&M University-Commerce will co-convene TAB•Lab.
