Note: Lunch will be provided at each location. Please register at least three business days in advance to ensure that we have enough food for all attendees.

In November 2015, Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) announced 60x30TX, the state’s new long-range plan for higher education. 60x30TX will help to establish an educated and globally competitive Texas workforce by 2030.

The Coordinating Board will communicate the strategic plan by hosting “60x30TX  Regional Workshops” across Texas. The regional workshops are intended to provide a forum for local leaders to exchange ideas and create partnerships to help achieve the 60x30TX goals. 60x30TX is designed to establish a globally competitive workforce in Texas by 2030 by building on the success of the former long-range Texas higher education plan, Closing the Gaps by 2015

The regional workshops are sponsored by the Coordinating Board with support from Lumina Foundation and the College for All Texans Foundation. The objectives of the meeting are to: 1) review the status of regional/local progress toward addressing higher education challenges, which include improving collaboration and alignment between public schools and higher education, as well as improving college readiness; 2) develop an action plan to improve students’ completion of a postsecondary certificate or degree; and 3) create a seamless pipeline among public education, higher education, and the workforce.

As Bill Hammond, executive director of the Texas Association of Business, stated, “The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has hit a home run with the 60x30TX plan; no other education plan will impact businesses in a more positive way than this one will.”

Should you have any questions regarding these regional workshops, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Mary Smith at (512) 427-6213 or mary.smith@thecb.state.tx.us.
