Degree-Granting Colleges and Institutions Other Than Texas Public Institutions

Scope of Oversight
  • The Coordinating Board provides oversight of degree granting career schools and colleges and private postsecondary institutions operating under a Certificate of Authority while they seek recognized accreditation.
  • The Coordinating Board monitors career schools and colleges, private colleges, and out-of-state public postsecondary institutions operating under a Certificate of Authorization based on recognized accreditation.
  • The Coordinating Board is responsible for monitoring the accrediting agencies that are recognized by the Board.
  • The Coordinating Board authorizes use of "protected terms" as determined by the Texas Legislature.
  • The Coordinating Board registers institutional agents; provides letters of religious exemption; and provides information on institutions not authorized in Texas.
