Our mission is to provide the Legislature advice and comprehensive planning capability for higher education, to coordinate the effective delivery of higher education, to administer programs efficiently, and to improve higher education for the people of Texas.

Our work is guided by the state’s higher education plan, Closing the Gaps by 2015, which aims to close the educational gaps within Texas and between Texas and other leading states in student participation, student success, and institutional excellence and research.

Our priority is to provide an affordable, accessible, and high quality system of higher education that prepares individuals for a changing economy and workforce that furthers the development and application of knowledge through instruction, research, and public service.
