Welcome to the information site for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's 2009 Leadership Conference and Third Annual State of Higher Education Luncheon/ Ninth Annual Star Awards Ceremony. The conference was held on December 3-4, 2009, at the Westin City Center in Dallas, Texas.
The conference began on Thursday afternoon December 3 with a welcome from Coordinating Board Chairman Whit Riter III, followed by an orientation for new governing board members and other interested education leaders. Thursday evening a special reception and dinner were enjoyed by regents and trustees, chancellors and presidents, and other education leaders. The Honorable Dan Branch, Member of the Texas House of Representatives from Dallas and Chairman of the House Higher Education Committee, was the keynote dinner speaker. Discussions on Friday, December 4 focused on cost efficiencies in higher education, methods for making the opportunity of completing a college education more affordable for Texas and for Texans, and ways to accelerate our pace to meet the goals and targets of Closing the Gaps by 2015, the master plan for higher education in Texas.
In conjunction with the conference, the Coordinating Board presented the Third Annual State of Higher Education Luncheon. During the luncheon, the ninth annual Star Awards' finalists were honored and the winners announced. The Star Awards Ceremony highlights the outstanding efforts of colleges, universities, public schools and districts, and others to meet the goals of Closing the Gaps by 2015.
