Welcome to the information site for the Texas Higher Education Strategic Planning Committee, the advisory committee that is charged with providing to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB or Board) advice and recommendations regarding the Board’s development of the next long-term strategic plan for Texas higher education. The THECB and Texas institutions will continue to work to achieve the goals of the current Texas higher education plan, Closing the Gaps by 2015, adopted by the THECB in October 2000, while developing the next long-term plan for Texas higher education.

The development of the new Higher Education Strategic Plan will be an important step for Texas, one that requires consideration from all areas. In order to help develop the same level of buy-in and support that was achieved for Closing the Gaps, the Board recently established the Texas Higher Education Strategic Planning Committee (TxHESPC). Members bring a wealth of experience and ideas from a variety of business organizations and higher education institutions. The tasks assigned to the TxHESPC include: (1) making recommendations for the goals, targets, and statewide strategies for the next long-term strategic plan; and (2) soliciting input from stakeholders and the general public across the state. (Please see Developing the Next Long-Term Higher Education Plan for Texas for additional details regarding the establishment of the TxHESPC.)

Subsequent to its inaugural meeting on March 3, 2014, the TxHESPC will meet on a monthly basis, as required by workload and tasks. Special meetings may be called as deemed appropriate by the TxHESPC’s presiding officer. Meetings will be open to the public and broadcast via the web, unless prevented by technical difficulties. Institutions will have input through subcommittees and during comment periods. During the deliberations process, the Board will solicit public input via stakeholder meetings and online tools such as College Town Hall-Texas (http://www.collegetownhalltx.com).It is anticipated that at the THECB’s quarterly meeting on July 23, 2015, the TxHESPC will present to the THECB for consideration and adoption the TxHESPC’s final recommendations regarding the next long-term strategic plan for higher education in Texas, as modified on the basis of solicited input from stakeholders.
