Raymund A. Paredes, Ph.D., Commissioner of Higher Education, will provide vision
for Texas higher education.
10:15 a.m. 60x30TX Overview; Questions and Answers
David W. Gardner, Ph.D., Deputy Commissioner for Academic Planning and
Policy/Chief Academic Officer, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, will
provide an overview of the new Texas higher education strategic plan, 60x30TX.
10:45 a.m. Panel Discussion
Juan Cabrera, J.D., Superintendent, El Paso ISD; Eduardo Rodriguez, J.D., Interim
Chief Professional Officer, Council on Regional Economic Expansion and Educational
Development (CREEED); William Serrata, Ph.D., President, El Paso Community
College; and Joyce Wilson, M.P.A., Chief Executive Officer, Workforce Solutions
Borderplex will respond to the goals of the new higher education plan and will discuss
how school/college/business/community collaboration and related efforts are critical for
achieving the goals of 60x30TX in the Upper Rio Grande and West Texas Higher
Education Regions of Texas Higher Education Regions.
11:15 a.m. Breakout Sessions: Concurrent Discussions on Goals One and Two
Workshop participants will discuss strategies to achieve the Educational Attainment
and Completion goals of 60x30TX.
12:30 p.m. Lunch and Keynote Speaker
Wood Hunt, M.B.A., Executive Chairman, Hunt Companies, Inc., and Dennis Jones,
President Emeritus, National Center for Higher Education Management Systems, will
speak about the need for regions to take the lead in developing solutions that reflect
their specific region's need to reach the 60x30TX goals.
1:45 p.m. Breakout Sessions: Concurrent Discussions on 60x30TX Goals Three and
Workshop participants will discuss strategies to achieve the Marketable Skills and
Student Debt goals of 60x30TX.
3:00 p.m. Summary of Breakout Sessions
Workshop participants will identify key strategies and next steps for achieving the
goals of 60x30TX.
