Mexican American Studies Field of Study Advisory Committee

The Mexican American Studies Field of Study Advisory Committee (Mexican American Studies FOSAC) is a 10-member committee composed of faculty and administrators from institutions across the state, half from universities that offer one or more baccalaureate degree programs in Mexican American studies and half from community and technical colleges that offer courses leading to an undergraduate degree in Mexican American studies.

At its December 10, 2014, quarterly meeting, and after a 30-day, statewide comment period ending on December 7, the Coordinating Board's Committee on Academic and Workforce Success adopted the Commissioner's recommendation to establish the Mexican American Studies FOSAC. Please see Board rules, Chapter 1, Subchapter T, Sections 1.220-1.226, which were published in the Texas Register on November 7, 2014. The full Board adopted these rules at its January 22, 2015, meeting.

The Mexican American Studies FOSAC is charged with identifying the block of courses which may be transferred to a general academic teaching institution and must be substituted for that institution's lower-division requirements for the Mexican American studies degree program into which the student transfers.

Original Charge: 2015

Current Status: Appointed, statutory

Meeting Schedule: Meets as needed

Mexican American Studies FOSAC Members: The 10 members of the Mexican American Studies FOSAC serve staggered terms of up to three years. Members were nominated by their institutions in consultation with disciplinary faculty and were chosen to evenly represent public, degree-granting institutions of all sizes, regions, and missions.
