The Nursing Field of Study Advisory Committee (Nursing FOS) is composed of faculty and administrators from institutions across the state, half from universities that offer one or more baccalaureate degree programs in nursing and half from community and technical colleges that offer courses leading to an undergraduate degree in nursing.
At its December 10, 2014, quarterly meeting, and after a 30-day, statewide comment period ending on December 7, the Coordinating Board's Committee on Academic and Workforce Success adopted the Commissioner's recommendation to establish the Nursing FOS. Please see Board rules, Chapter 1, Subchapter V, Sections §1.140-1.446, which were published in the Texas Register on November 7, 2014. The full Board adopted these rules at its January 22, 2015, meeting.
The Nursing FOS is charged with identifying and recommending to the Coordinating Board the block of courses which may be transferred to a general academic teaching institution and must be substituted for that institution's lower-division requirements for the Nursing degree program into which the student transfers. The transferring student shall receive full academic credit toward the degree program for the block of courses transferred.
