Qualifies under SAM 1.1.1. This proposal request funds to investigate the processing of Hf-Ti-Nb alloy melts with B4C to form boride-carbide precipitates in a Hf-Ti-Nb alloy matrix. The ultimate goal of the research endeavor is to enhance significantly the oxidation resistance of ultrahigh temperature ceramic composites (UHTCC), the processing of these reactive metals must be improved dramatically to control the eventual development of the oxide scale.
