We will publish research articles on contemporaneous education policy issues with the aim of helping scholars and policymakers to better understand and improve education systems in the United States. The specific research topics will be flexible in order to allow our team to address important policy issues as opportunities arise, but general areas of focus will be (1) an analysis of principals including performance and labor markets, (2) an analysis of charter school performance over time and of market forces on charter performance, and (3) coordination of a joint effort with others to analyze principal performance across states. An overarching objective of the research agenda is to better understand how personnel policies influence workforce quality and student achievement and the tradeoffs embodied by different policy decisions.
