Title of Contract, Award, or Gift: Collaborative Research: Antarctica as a Model System for Responses of Terrestrial Carbon Balance to Warming

Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity: National Science Foundation

Program Title: N/A
CFDA Linked: Geosciences

1.1.1: This collaborative research award supports the investigation of microbial, including autotrophic taxa and plant controls of net ecosystem productivity in response to warming in intact ecosystems. The project will focus on a deglaciated sere on the Antarctic Peninsula. The proposed methodology uses open-top chambers paired with control plots, arrayed along a productivity gradient, from which will be determined incoming and outgoing carbon fluxes. Results will advance research in climate change, plant and soil microbial ecology, and ecosystem modeling.
