1.1.1: The purpose of this research project is prototyping a near real-time land surface change monitoring and characterization system at 30-meter resolution for the Conterminous US (CONUS) as the target area. This will be done through algorithm development, creation of dense 30-meter resolution observations and prototyping for the CONUS. Supporting this objective includes (1) methods and techniques for the merging and integration of Landsat data with measurements collected by other land imaging satellite instruments; (2) algorithms and approaches for developing Landsat geo- and biophysical measurements; (3) assessment of Landsat data product’s readiness for use in accurate detection and characterization of environmental change; (4) requirements and strategies, and algorithms for new innovative Landsat standard and derived products; and (5) advanced algorithms, methods or strategies for large-area land change assessments.
