Note:

1.1.1 - The study will evaluate the economic impacts of a storm-surge event in the Houston-Galveston region. First, at the industrial level, we will investigate the impacts to high-density industrial and petro-chemical complexes in the Galveston Bay region and the potential to send detrimental economic "ripples" throughout the U.S. economy, affecting businesses that are directly and indirectly linked with local producers and refiners. Second, at the household level we seek to estimate the financial burden of flood insurance in the Houston-Galveston region and determine the premium savings to homeowners at the local level if a coastal barrier system was in place. Additional survey data will also be collected at the household level to better understand behavior in response to the construction of a coastal spine. Budget categories include salaries and fringe ( PI, Co-PIs, Co-Investigators, post doc, graduate and undergraduate students), travel, materials & supplies, other costs and tuition.
