1.3.2. -- The intellectual focus of this REU Site will be to advance UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) technology for autonomous operations as well as seek UAS based solutions to facilitate collection, storage, and analysis of data on the coastal environment of the Gulf of Mexico, particularly in South Texas, through development of algorithms and software. Specifically, the participating students will gain a unique research experience from the program’s three interrelated components: 1) Autonomous flight control of unmanned aerial systems, 2) Applications of unmanned aerial systems for research on the Gulf of Mexico and its associated region, and 3) Security of unmanned aerial systems.
