1.1.1. -- this project investigates a poorly known phenomenon on estuarine acidification that is separated from atmospheric CO2 invasion but related to land-oceans interactions. Sustained monitoring of estuarine carbonate chemistry will provide the society with information regarding how to manage freshwater resources to both meet the demand of upper reaches of rivers and the coastal environments. A healthy estuarine environment is beneficial to calcifying organisms such as shellfish and finfish. An important species --oysters in TX estuaries supports both valuable fishery and coastline protection.
