1.1.4. -- the equipment lost consisted of 25 Vemco acoustic monitoring receivers that are used to track various fish species tagged with ultrasonic acoustic transmitters in inshore and offshore environments. These receivers were primarily supporting two main projects when Hurricane Harvey made landfall on the Texas coast. In addition to the physical equipment loss, substantial loss of data also occurred as these receivers had been deployed and collecting data for 10-12 months. Unfortunately, recovery of acoustic receivers is required to access the data as there is no remote mechanism for data download. This loss of unrecoverable data would provide a major setback to the various project objectives and timelines for completion. Additionally, lost receivers deployed for these projects have been and were scheduled to be used for future tracking of other species as part of Texas Acoustic Array Network (TexAAN), a large-scale tracking network for mobile marine & estuarine animals able to utilized by multiple researchers in the TX coast.
