Name of Granting or Contracting Agency/Entity: National Science Foundation

Program Title: N/A
CFDA Linked: Geosciences

1.1.1. -- to coordinate field sample of oysters from four locations (Port Isabel, Packery Channel, Nueces Bay and Aransas Bay) that will be used for genetic analysis. Additional collection of oysters from these locations will be used for progeny generation. To create distinct groups of oysters from TX and LA through conditioning geographic population of oysters from each state in two different salinities followed by spawning and rearing. Conduct salinity tolerance experiments on larvae from each spawn and rear oyster larvae through metamorphosis at which time growth experiments will be initiated in mesocosm tanks at three different salinities for a period of 6-12 months. To observe mortality rate as well as measuring shell growth and weight gain. Water quality and chemistry will be measured every 3-4 days. Assist with data analysis and report writing for TX components as well as integrating TX findings into whole project reports.
