Note:

Continuation of award. Originally reported in 2017; classified as restricted research. 1.1.1. -- previous C-IMAGE research has sought to advance understanding of the fundamental processes and mechanisms involved in submarine blowouts and their environmental consequences, ensuring that society is better-prepared to mitigate such contamination events in the future. This research documented extensive accumulation of oil at the sea bottom resulting from both the Deepwater Horizon (DWH, 2010) and IXTOC-1 (1979-1980) oil spills, through a process now recognized as marine oil snow sediment and flocculent accumulation MOSSFA) This project focuses on two priorities: 1) continuing analysis of samples from experimental simulations that have emerged from previous C-IMAGE-sponsored research, and 2) Synthesizing research findings commissioned by GoMX Aliance and other entities. Received additional funding.
