Continuation of award. Originally reported in 2015; classified as research. 1.1.1. -- to study estuarine buffer behavior of three different estuarine systems (Lavaca-Matagorda, Guadalupe-San Antonio, Oso-Corpus Christi) that are subject to different freshwater inflow conditions, using both field and modeling techniques. Specifically, the project will focus on both short-term and long-term alkalinity reduction on estuarine carbonate chemistry, eutrophication-induced carbonate equilibria shift, wet/dry cycle caused bottom water CO2 enrichment, and predictive modeling of carbonate chemistry using estuarine hydrology, climate, and different freshwater inflow scenarios. Received additional funding.
