The telescope, CCD, and associated instrumentation for which MRI funds are requested will be used (i) by faculty for local and collaborative research projects, (ii) by upper-division undergraduates in advanced laboratory courses and independent research projects, (iii) by pursuing observational Master's theses, and (iv) as a training facility for users of the SARA Observatories.  The specific research projects planned for the facility include (i) time series observations of asteroid light curves to help determine rotation rates and population statistics, (ii) time series observations of cataclysmic variables in collaboration with the Center for Backyard Astrophysics, (iii) characterizing the suspected rotation of carbon-atmosphere white dwarfs, (iv) long-term monitoring of pulsating white dwarfs, (v) target-of-opportunity transient follow up observations (e.g., those identified by the ASASSN team and soon LSST) and (vi) additional projects according to faculty and student interest.
