SP00010952 - Our proposal attempts to contribute to the adult literacy literature by focusing on two major goals: i) to conduct research on the underlying cognitive and motivational processes that contribute to or inhibit the reading proficiency of adults attending adult basic education programs (targeting adults reading between the third and eighth grade levels of reading achievement), and ii) based on our assessment results, to develop and evaluate a multiple component intervention to address these adults’ literacy learning needs and foster their engagement in literacy activities.
