The combination of experimental and computational studies proposed herein is expected to yield predictive models that facilitate rationally designed reductions in turn-on voltage and improvements in power efficiency in second generation OLEDs featuring lower cost ZnO anodes for solid state lighting. Lower cost is expected to promote their widespread use, which in turn will eventually have a noticeable impact on reducing the amount of fossil fuel consumed by general lighting.
