Note:

The following action components, objectives, and activities stem from an institutional self-assessment and the HWP model, and correspond to institutional and national contexts: 1) The Faculty Recruitment and Advancement initiative will enrich faculty development and leadership through the creation of the Institute for Faculty Development and Leadership and will expand existing faculty development programs, including mentoring. This initiative will also focus on expanding recruitment efforts through the implementation of new interventions and strategies to recruit and retain female faculty; 2) The Policy and Climate initiative will address the policies and work-life issues that have constrained the recruitment and advancement of women faculty at UTPA, as reflected in the needs and self-assessment study; To that end, the policies identified in the self-assessment study will be institutionalized and the ADVANCE team will work on the transformation of departmental and campus climates; 3) The Education and Empowerment component will promote awareness and a positive climate through providing information, resources/tools, and training to address gender and work-life issues; and, 4) the Social Science Research component will investigate the impact and effectiveness of the ADVANCE initiatives, and it will enhance knowledge regarding issues that hinder the success of women, especially Hispanics, in STEM fields.
